Alphonso was born in 1990 in the small West African state of Liberia, one year after the civil war began. He grew up amid warfare and spent his teenage years with what was left of his family in a refugee camp in Ghana. Eventually the family came under the care of the United Nations, and Alphonso arrived in Goulburn in 2009 on a refugee humanitarian visa. Alphonso now has a family of his own; he’s continuing his studies, and shares his life story in the hope of raising awareness of refugees within our community, and to provide a message of hope. Alphonso is determined to use every opportunity to build a life he has always dreamt about.
