Bishop Lanigan (1820 - 1900), Roman catholic Bishop, was appointed to the vacant see of Goulburn after Bishop Patrick Geoghegan died in Ireland. Lanigan died in Goulburn from senile decay and is buried in the crypt beneath the Sanctuary of St. Peter and Paul's Cathedral.
