Belmore Park in Goulburn's central business district is skirted by Market, Auburn, Montague and Sloane Streets. From as early as 1833 Belmore Park was the city's Market Square, where merchandise was exchanged. It also provided a place for family picnics and entertainment. In 1869 Market Square was renamed Belmore Square in honour of Lord and Lady Belmore's visit to Goulburn on the occasion of the opening of the railway between Goulburn and Sydney.
