The most significant and historically well known of Goulburn's newspapers were the Goulburn Herald, and the Goulburn Evening Penny Post (later the Goulburn Evening Post, now the Goulburn Post). The editors or proprietors of these papers were, in many cases, local businessmen, who invested in the newspapers to ensure local and wider news was made available to the community. They had their own religious and political biases, which tended to be expressed in the views of their papers. Many cadet journalists also became editors of the newspapers.
