Soldier settlement [vertical file]

Post-war soldier settlement schemes were developed to assist returned servicemen and women to re-establish their place in society via a land or house grant. Goulburn and the surrounding districts provided some of these locations.

The envelope contains:

* hand-written sheet "Did you know", contributed by W.B.J. Mitchell, Tarlo, undated, indicating a returned soldier settlement location and foundation stone on the site of Sirdar Industries (Chantry St), prior the Munitions Factory being built. Also Braidwood Road location.

* photocopies of documents, newspaper excerpts, and building specifications pertaining to the "Application for Building Permit" to Municipality of Goulburn" dated 22-8-16 re Soldier's Home to be built by Goulburn High School pupils, Lansdowne Street.

* collection of notes, excerpts from documents and other source materials re Goulburn Branch Library presentation event "Post-war Land Distribution and Soldier Settlement Schemes" by NSW State Records and National Archives of Australia presenters, held 14 March 2006. Discusses post World War I and II schemes.

* photocopies of post World War II "War Service and Settlement" planning maps for land and closer settlement re Hillcrest Estate in Mulwaree Shire; Rotherwood Estate, Goulburn in Mulwaree Shire, Springfield (Promotion) Estate in Mulwaree Shire; Willeroo Estate, Tarago.

* photocopies of NSW Government Gazette notices re War Service Settlement, Aug 1946. Also Closer Settlement Lease areas notifications for Rotherwood Estate, 1959 and Willeroo Estate, 1946.

* photocopy of 5 documents relating to an application for land under the War Service Land Settlement Act by discharged serviceman, Neville James Croker, including Qualification certificate issued 1949.
