The Futters of King's

Pickard, William J. (William Jasper)1984
Books
Subject: William Pickard has written an entertaining and, at times, moving account of the Futters, the first of whom arrived in Australia in 1823. Many of the five generations of Futters that have followed have attended the King's School. The Futters of King's examines in detail the family's history which culminated in the generous bequest to the School in 1950 under Mrs Violet Macansh's will. It is a story with special significance for The King's School community. The book will also be valued by those interested in colonial history covering, as it does, much of the early settlement of New South Wales. There is particular reference to the first settlers at Bungonia (near Goulburn) and to the squatters in the Murrumbidgee and Lachlan districts. Many aspects of the land settlement in the nineteenth century are considered and explained. It will find a fitting place in any school library. Back Cover.
