Woodlawn project : environmental impact statement

Books
Subject: This 1976 Environment Impact Statement deals with the entire Woodlawn Project as presently proposed, including transport of concentrates and supply of power and water as well as the on-site matters covered in the earlier, 1973 EIS. The primary objective of the proposed development at Woodlawn is the establishment of a mining and treatment operation to mine the deposit, to produce sulphide mineral concentrates at the mine site, and to transport the concentrates elsewhere for processing to metal. The methods proposed to achieve this objective are within the compass of established technology though it is anticipated that the various techniques so far developed will be modified in practice so as to improve the efficiency of the overall operation. The proposed development includes an open pit mine to produce gossan and supergene ore initally, followed by complex ore and copper ore during an operating life of about 10 years. A forestry plantation development and an agricultural development are integral parts of the overall proposal.
