Subject: Following the war of 1914-1918 the citizens of Braidwood and district erected the War Memorial which is located opposite the court-house, on the corner of Wallace and Wilson streets ... The column, on its four sides, is faced with granite on which are engraved the names of the 290 servicemen and, under the heading of 'Nurses' seven members of the Australian Army Nursing Service who enlisted from Braidwood and the district. Forty six of the soldiers are recorded as having been Killed in Action and seven are show as having been awarded Decorations .. the Memorial was unveiled on Monday 5 June 1922. Following World War II a commemorative black granite tablet was fixed to the front of the lower pedistal of the Memorial honouring those who had lost their lives in this war.
