Subject: The Bookham Public School, for most of its existence, has been a one-teacher school. It has at all times catered for the education of the local children. When the Closer Settlement of 'Bookham Station' was completed, owing to the increase in the number of pupils, two teachers were employed for a time and quite a few improvements were made to the school and amenities. In latter years the number of pupils has varied quite a bit, and at one stage it reached the minimum number, and it looked as if the school would have to close. The P & C Association, however, made strong representation to the Education Department and then some more pupils enrolled so the school carried on. Bookham Public School has served the community for 100 years. (Message from the Centenary Committee Chairman, Mr Maurice Shannon, p. ii).
