Ancestry provides instant access to a wide range of unique resources for genealogical and historical research.

With more than 1.5 billion names in over 4,000 databases.

Australian records include convict transportation registers, immigration lists, musters and census records.

Access is only available within the Library.

FindMyPast

FindMyPast provides online access to records from Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands and Papua New Guinea as well as for Ireland and the United Kingdom. Find your past using our family history records and many more for local and social history.

The various record collections include: cemetery records, directories and almanacs, electoral rolls, government and police gazettes and other government records, military records, newspapers and periodicals, land records, religious records, regional and general histories, and biographical records.

Access is only available within the Library.

ANZAC Research

Access a range of resources to support research on Australia's military history, including education resources, online research guides, and a variety of tools to help family historians.

• The AIF Project - this database by UNSW and ADFA is drawn from a range of official sources including the National Archives and Australian War Memorial.
• Australian War Memorial - databases for those who have served in Australia's military and the arenas they have served in around the world.
• Defence and War Service Records - this collection will help you learn more about your family's war history, including digitised war service records.
• Red Cross Missing, Wounded, and Prisoner of War Enquiry Cards - approximately 60,000 cards used by the Central Bureau for Wounded, Missing, and Prisoners of War of the Australian Red Cross to trace the welfare and whereabouts of members of the armed forces, and some civilians, during the Second World War, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. • Rocky Hill War Memorial Research Portal - supports online research into Australian service personnel and conflicts from across the world.

Convicts

Convict records and other related information can be found on a number of external websites.

• Museums of History NSW - includes transportation records, indents and exiles indexes, assignment records, tickets of leave and certificates of freedom, and general information about convict settlements.
• Convict Records of Australia - a searchable database of British convict transportation records for convicts transported to Australia between 1787-1867.
• Old Bailey Online - a fully searchable website containing nearly 200,000 records of criminal trials held at London's Central Criminal Court, including 90,000 convicts sentenced at the Old Bailey between 1780 and 1875.
• Inverary Convict Index - Inverary (near Bungonia) was a very early area of New South Wales and was the Police District that extended as far as Braidwood, Goulburn and surrounding areas. This Index has been compiled by Researcher Tom Bryant from Ann Smith’s Convicts of the Bungonia Region, and contains information on convicts sent to the Goulburn region.
